Am I ready yet? – Things to consider before writing your first post

The thought of starting a blog can be quite daunting at times, especially if you’re new to the blogging world. It’s like we know there’s more out there in the big world of web, were just hesitant to dive in.  I mean where do we start? There’s the endless amount of layouts to choose from, the colour schemes, privacy settings and don’t even get me started on trying to think of a name. That’s why there’s a few things that we need to consider before jumping into the deep end of blogging and hey once you do you might find the great sea of blogging is actually quite nice!

Of course the first thing to think about will be the name and there’s a lot to consider. The name of your blog will be the very first impression that people will get of you, so it has to be good. The most important thing to keep in mind when creating your blog name is; keep it interesting. If people think your name is boring or like something they’ve seen before they won’t want to read your blog. Don’t be afraid to go all out with your name, you want to make people think, ‘hey i wonder what that’s about’ or ‘that sounds really interesting.'(Roeder) In short, your name needs to make people want more!

The next thing you’ll need to consider is the layout and the colour scheme. This is important because it will be the first thing your readers see when they open your page. when picking your layout the most important thing to remember is; target your audience!  For example if you’re a women’s beauty website, your layout won’t be solidly structured, featuring greys and blues as a financial website would. Make sure in the design process you’re always thinking of your target audience. (Tuck 2003)

So hopefully now you’re feeling more confident in making your first post. Happy Blogging!
